In the First Leg of this challenge match Nortel got off to a disappointing start and it will take a minor miracle to rescue the match in the Second Leg at Havers Park in September. Bruce Dickson and his rink were in touch with their opposition for most of the match but could never get themselves in front eventually going down by a few shots. Jim Sugar's rink were in touch at the start but their opposition gradually pulled away and built up a commanding lead which they were never going to surrender. Steven Mitchinson's rink never really got going and in the end well beaten. The one winning rink was skipped by John Cuin as a steady performance kept them in front for most of the match and they were the one bright spot in a difficult opening match of the season. With the first Lea Valley League match of the season coming up this weekend improvement is needed.
